Its strange how life works sometimes. Three weeks ago I wasn’t sure if I was going to do the International distance triathlon in Nautica Malibu triathlon this past Saturday. I never fathomed I would then be given the opportunity to race in the Malibu celebrity relay the next day.
The International Race
The International Race was exactly as I expected. Being the last race in the season and one I haven’t trained particularly hard for, my times reflected it. The weather was perfect and the water was smooth as glass. Fueling was all natural and entirely ketogenic. Nothing but pecans on the bike and two coconut oil packets on the run, which, for the first time in awhile, I was able to run the entire distance!
The Celebrity Relay
What an incredible experience; as an athlete, an actor, and someone who raises money for worthy causes. This year the Nautica Malibu Triathlon over $1.2 was raises for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Our team, “2 Fast 2 Furious” who consisted of Eric Etebari on the run, Lewis Elliot on the bike, and myself on the swim came in 3rd place in the all male relay. Eric has won this race solo before and has podiumed for the past few years in the relay, so Lewis and I knew we had to bring our A game.
I knew I had my work cut out for me since I was lined up against 3 Olympic swimmers just back from Rio. The water was a LOT more turbulant that day. Had a good chat about it with actor/comedian Rob Riggle on our way down to the swim start. The conditions made it an entirely different race than the day before. Came out of the water two minutes further back than I wanted, but Lewis crushed it on the bike and Eric definitely crushed the run. Pretty cool being announced by Tom Bergeron who announced me as Ramsey “no relation” Bergeron.
It was definitely a weekend to remember.
